I own an LLC in the US but live in Japan. Could I hire myself using a PEO to sponsor a work visa? Anyone done this?

Main Post:

Really just trying to find a way to get a long term visa without spending $50,000 for the Business Manager visa.

On paper, I guess this is theoretically possible. But I'd be surprised if you could find a PEO/GEO who would participate in the scheme, because you would asking to be both their client and their employee simultaneously, which would look a whole lot like money laundering, especially if your LLC is not filing Japanese corporate tax returns.

And even if you could find a PEO who would be willing to cooperate, Immigration may consider the "employment" to be fraudulent, on the basis that you would effectively be paying the PEO to employ you. (On paper it would be your LLC paying them rather than you personally, but I think it would require quite a specific set of circumstances for this distinction to matter to Immigration.) Paying someone to "employ" you for visa-purposes is textbook immigration fraud. And I doubt the corporate veil provided by a one-person LLC would change the equation.

Is the Collins LLC good to live in?

Main Post:

I'm going to be a psych student in fall next year and the Collins LLC looks interesting but it seems pretty far away from a bunch of academic buildings I would be in. Is it worth being in the northeast away from stuff as opposed to the central neighborhood? Any other recommendations for a psych student for housing would be appreciated.

Top Comment: I lived there and it was probably the best location wise imo. If you are going to be going to the psych building often, it’s a super short walk, like maybe 5 minutes. Collins is also undergoing big renovations right now, so it will probably be a lot nicer than when I lived there lol.

I live in CA. Where to form an LLC?

Main Post:

I am building a new product that will take some time. Recently, I have been getting opportunities to close tiny deals. The income would be about $4K for now.

I live in CA with a yearly W2 income of about $200k.

Where should I incorporate it? I believe the business can grow to $50k a year in its first year.

I have expenses related to the biz, currently at $15K

Top Comment: This is a discussion for your attorney. Regardless of where you form, you still need to register in CA.

LLC advice

Main Post:

Hello I’m starting my own Airbnb business and I live in California. Got a Cali LLC however now I’m looking to invest and do business in Texas and eventually other states. Is there an LLC I can get that allows me operate anywhere? I heard a Delaware or Wyoming LLC? Or should I get a foreign LLC? Or Is it cheaper just registering for a separate LLC in Texas?

Told I need a business account as an S-Corp LLC which is just me working for one company, but they all have really bad interest rates! Can I immediately transfer the funds that are deposited into that account elsewhere?

Main Post:

I much prefer a high interest savings account for the direct deposits from one company that I work for, but I am told I MUST have a business account.

Is it okay if I just immediately transfer the funds to a segregated high interest savings account that is only used for my business to circumvent this?

Thank you for your time!
